As with any new roster, it takes time and experience to learn what works best for the squad. It is for that reason today we are announcing the departure of Eric “747” Dong from the Archon Dota 2 roster. 747 joined Archon along with the rest of Fire, when they were picked up following TI5. For the time being, he will be replaced by Jaron “monkeysforever” Clinton of ROOT Gaming, who will be playing with the squad for the upcoming Frankfurt Fall Majors Americas Qualifiers.
Team captain, Brian “FLUFFNSTUFF” Lee, had this to say on the change:
“To shed some light on the situation, our team felt like a team was necessary in order to perform better overall. Simply put, we felt that our preferences and play styles didn’t mesh well with 747’s personal style. The decision itself was carefully considered, and we’re sad to let him go. I sincerely wish Eric the best with his future endeavours. Moving forward, we believe that Monkeys compliments our team and will be a fitting replacement. Thank you to everyone who supports our team and please know that this was not an easy decision to make.”
Team Archon’s Chief Operating Officer, Sebastian “ArchonSeb” Park followed up with:
“I am sad to see Eric ‘747’ Dong leave Team Archon, as I believe him to be an extraordinary talented player who has the potential to be one of the best in North America. However, our team felt they needed to make a change to be able to compete at a higher level, and I am glad that they were able to recognize that and make the hard decision that they did. While we will need to requalify for the Americas Qualifiers, I trust the judgement of our team and support their decision to act in the team’s best interest.”
We would like to thank 747 for his time and performance with Team Archon and though we are sad to see him go, we wish him the best in the next stage of his Dota career.
As mentioned above, due to the roster restrictions placed on Majors, this change does mean that Archon will lose its regional qualifier slot. Team Archon will instead be playing in through the open Americas qualifiers, beginning October 8th. As always, we would like to thank all of you for your support, especially during this transition.
